1. Dexter Morgan Poster
Dexter, “Dex” himself is the narrator of the series. He is a forensics expert and also at the same time a perfectionist when it comes to killing bad guys. He was hired by the Miami Metro Police Department, also leading a life of a part-time vigilante!
His homicidal tendencies go back to witnessing the murder of her mother along with his younger brother, Brian. In addition, they both were left with blood in a container for two days. We thus, automatically sympathize with our hero.
2. Rita Bennett
Rita Bennett was Dexter’s girlfriend and later his wife. Rita too has her own story of struggling, being sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. She’s shown in the role of a nurturing mother at the beginning of the show. Rita thus faces some difficulties in maintaining a sexual relationship.
Rita starts a relationship with Dexter without knowing about his life story completely. In season two, Rita’s relationship with Dexter thus becomes troubled.
3. Debra Morgan
Debra Morgan is the younger foster sister of Dexter and the biological child of Harry Morgan. Debra is completely unaware of his father and especially about Dexter, whom she considers as her elder brother. She too takes up the job of a detective, after being inspired by her father.

James Doakes is a police officer who’s looking into Miami Metro PD’s homicide. Doakes initially had killer thoughts in him causing him to separate with his wife. He says that he would have killed her otherwise.
5. Maria LaGuerta
Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta is a strong woman, who’s determined and is in charge of the Homicide division. She initially disliked Debra which disappears later!
6. Angel Batista
Meet Angel Batista- a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department’s Homicide Division. However, be aware of his god-awful sense of humor! Angel Batista is undoubtedly a good person who’s also brutally honest, following strictly what his father had to say about him. He is Dexter’s best friend too!
7. Harry Morgan
Harry Morgan is Dexter’s adoptive father. He too was a respectable detective when alive. However, while working on a high-stake drug case, he begins an illicit relationship with Laura Moser, Dexter’s biological mother. This was however done to gather information and evidence on the drug lords under suspicion.
8. Vince Masuka
Vincent Masuka is the Miami Metro Police lead forensics investigator and works alongside Dexter in the lab and at crime scenes. He is funny but cracks jokes only sexual in nature. However, he also has one-sided feelings for Debra.
Vincent is a nasty character with a constant longing for sex. He’s rather obsessed with sexual meanings and contexts. And not to mention, his peculiar laughter following the same!
9. Joey Quinn
Joseph “Joey” Quinn is a detective who is transferred to the Homicide division after being in Narcotics before Season 3. Quinn too has a liking for Debra Morgan, even giving her a C.I. to help with the Oscar Prado case. However, everyone is pretty curious about his past life.

Thomas Mathews is a high-ranking Miami Metro PD police official, serving as its deputy chief too. He made a leap from being the commanding officer of the Miami Metro PD Homicide Division.
This further makes him an immediate superior of Lieutenant María LaGuerta. He understands everything cause he too was a lieutenant himself, serving as a superior and best friend to Harry Morgan.
12. Jamie Batista
Jamie Batista is Angel Batista’s younger sister. She comes to the town to study but is soon hired by Dexter as Harrison’s nanny. She helps Dexter to carry out his killings, while she worked over-time and covered the same for him!
