The 1985 American sci-fi movie, Back to the Future is directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It stars Michael J. Fox as teenager Marty McFly, the hero of time, literally. The journey that the protagonist undertakes in order to go back and forth in time from 1985 to 1955 is rather interesting.

This is where he meets his future parents and becomes his mother’s romantic interest. Christopher Llyod portrays the eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown, inventor of the time-traveling DeLorean, who helps Marty repair history and return to 1985.

The movie is a light watch, with romantic and science re-emerging the idea of time as an immobile, free notion.

During the course of the trilogy, “Back To The Future”, Marty McFly travels through time using a DeLorean Time Machine invented by his friend Emmett Brown and this is when the protagonist meets the villain, Biff Tannen. This takes him several time periods, meeting his parents and ancestors meanwhile, for then.

3. Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown

Doc Brown takes Marty McFly to 2015 in order to stop Marty’s future son to commit a mistake that would ruin Marty’s family from future. However, by the time, these two science enthusiasts make their return, they realise that their own time has been changed.

4. George McFly

George McFly is the father of Dave, Linda and Marty McFly and the husband of Lorraine Baines McFly. In the first film, George is shown to be meek and gullible, and thus an obvious prey to Biff Tannen’s bullying. We also learn about two major incidents when George is unable to stand for himself.

He’s a genius in science but never goes beyond his four walls, for the fear of rejection. In 1955, with Marty’s help, he gets the courage to finally stand upright in front of Biff and he punches him, and makes him unconscious.

5. Biff Tannen

Biff Tannen is the true villain as one says of the first two films, and a minor character in the third film. He is shown to intimidate people, make keep feel bad about themselves. He’s a total bully, and a cheater too. He is always after shy and meek people like George.

He and his family members don’t know how to use idioms properly, and thus make mistakes using the same which are funny. His favorite insult is “butthead”.

6. Jennifer Parker

In 1985, Jennifer attends Hill Valley High School. She’s then Marty’s girlfriend. She lives with her family on a ranch, as a result of an ancestral hostage under Biff Tannen.

In the episode “A Friend in Deed”, Marty travels back in time to 1875 and destroys deals of any such sort and thus emancipates her and family with help from Jules and Verne.

7. Lorraine Baines-McFly

Lorraine Baines-McFly is the wife of George McFly and the mother of Marty, Linda and Dave. She is the eldest daughter of Sam and Stella Baines. In Back to the Future, Lorraine is initially in her 50s and is rather melancholic.

However, after Marty goes back in time and makes the necessary changes, she is shown to be fit and happily married to George in 1985. In Part II, she is still happily married to George in 2015, but in the dystopian alternate 1985 timeline she is widowed and married to Biff.

Final Words: Back To The Future Poster Collection

Back To The Future was one of the highest-grossing movies of its time in 1985 and his praised even today for its visuals, screenplay, direction and acting by the actors. The movie has its own high points that are absolutely unmatchable.

After all, who could have thought of a concept where going back in time is actually possible?! Much like the protagonist, Marty McFly, we all want to change our lives and that of our parents, which again affects our lives. The movie has a perfect amalgamation of science and romance that makes it a must-watch.

Each scene is powerful, and each timeline is significant as it enables alternations owing to the same. Right from changing the past for his parents, Marty is able to come to terms with his own life, with the help of his time machine, also after defeating the vain villain, Biff.

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 96% of critics gave the film a positive review based on 77 reviews; the average rating is 8.71/10. On review aggregator Metacritic the film received an average score of 87, which indicates “universal acclaim”, based on 12 reviews.
